Inside the Bakkerij FUNK bakery

About FUNK

Bread with a conscience (and a sense of humour)

We're a small Antwerp bakery making 100% plant-based food that tastes like it means it.

How it started

Born in Antwerp

FUNK started with a stubborn idea: that plant-based baking could be just as rich, flaky and joyful as anything else on the counter.

So we put down roots in Antwerp, fired up the ovens, and got to work. No dairy, no eggs, no shortcuts — just flour, time, good produce and an unreasonable amount of care. Today we bake every day for our neighbourhood, our webshop and the occasional very lucky office.

Our philosophy

100% plant-based, no compromise on taste. We don't do "good for a vegan thing". We do good, full stop. Every recipe is built and rebuilt until it earns its place in the case.

Scandinavian x Japanese flavour curiosity. We like a little funk in the classics: matcha cinnamon rolls, black sesame croissants, miso caramel twists. Comfort food, jet-lagged.

Slow craft. Our sourdough ferments for 36 hours. Our pastries are laminated by hand. Things take the time they take.

Sustainability, without the sermon

Seasonal sourcing, minimal waste, reusable packaging wherever we can, and a menu that follows the harvest instead of fighting it. We're not perfect — we're just serious about getting better, bake by bake.
